As the students of Centennial Elementary School, Wapakoneta, Ohio greeted author and illustrator, Linda M. Brandt, you could tell that there was excitement in the air. Brandt was a graduate of Centennial and she was here to make a presentation of her children’s book named, “Henry’s Life as a Tulip Bulb”.
The author began her presentation in the gym where she conducted a PowerPoint of her life as an artist including pictures of her studio, her car named “Vern” and pictures of the Alligator Farm near her house. Snippets of the Henry book were included as virtually all of the students had read the book or had it read to them. Ms. Brandt encouraged the students to dream big and to never get discouraged.
One of the highlights of the presentation was the introduction of Henry, himself!
After the assembly, Ms. Brandt was assisted by Nancy Myers of Wapakoneta, in the library where Ms. Brandt read the book, “Henry’s Life as a Tulip Bulb” to the students. She, then, shared a few moments with the Henry puppet.
The Henry puppet is a new addition to Ms. Brandt’s presentation.
She, then, concluded the event by showing the students how to paint and how to create a storyboard. The students ranging from Kindergarten to the 4th Grade enthusiastically participated in the creation of a storyboard including colors of the skateboard.
Many thanks to the faculty and students of Centennial Elementary. Without their support, their creativity and their efforts, this presentation would not be what it was - a time to embrace an Attitude of Gratitude... to thankful no matter what our situation.
Signed copies of Ms. Brandt’s book are available through the school.
A portion of the proceeds are donated back to the school and to brain tumor research being conducted at the University of Florida.
